Future Transport

Transport research facilities are mainly attached to universities or are steered by the state. In most countries (not in France and Spain) one can see now how laboratories are brought into PPP-operation, where industry takes over part of the share.

Hoverboard
A Hoverboard is a fictional futuristic hovering deck, resembling a skateboard without wheels or trucks. The name is a portmanteau of the words hover and skateboard. They were first introduced in the films Back to the Future Part II in 1989.

Hyperdrive
The Hyperdrive is one of the three typical methods of travelling faster than light in science fiction; the other two being jump drive and warp drive. The theories behind hyperdrive and its required other dimension of "hyperspace" are based on ideas forwarded by Albert Einstein. While jump drives move a starship instantaneously, and warp drives move a ship through real space, hyperdrives operate differently.

Solar sail
Solar sails (also called light sails, especially when they use light sources other than the Sun) are a proposed form of spacecraft propulsion utilizing large membrane mirrors. Radiation pressure is small and decreases by the square of the distance from the sun, but unlike rockets, solar sails require no fuel. Although the thrust is small, it continues as long as the sun shines and the sail exists.

Magnetic levitation train
A magnetic levitation train, or maglev, is suspended in the air above a single track, and propelled using the repulsive and attractive forces of magnetism. Due to the lack of physical contact between the track and the vehicle, the only friction exerted on is that of between the carriages and air.

Wormhole
In physics, a wormhole, also known as an Einstein-Rosen bridge (and less commonly as an Einstein-Rosen-Podolsky bridge or Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen bridge), is a hypothetical topological feature of spacetime that is essentially a "shortcut" through space and time. A wormhole has at least two mouths which are connected to a single throat. Matter can 'travel' from one mouth to the other by passing through the throat.

Proposed Future Transport systems are ideas in transportation that have not yet been developed.

The European Commission supports the co-operation and collaboration amongst the transport laboratories by funding projects like EXTR@Web and

Intransnet. Especially the transition from plannedeconomy to achieving a stable position on the market will be a challenge for laboratories in the new member states. Another EU-project etra.ccis coping with those problems.

Low-pollution fuels can reduce pollution. Low pollution fuels may have a reduced carbon content, and thereby contribute less in the way of carbon dioxide emissions, and generally have reduced sulfur, since sulfur exhaust is a cause of acid rain. The most popular low-pollution fuel at this time is liquified natural gas. Hydrogen is an even lower-pollution fuel that produces no carbon dioxide, but producing and storing it economically is currently not feasible. Other alternative renewable energy sources such as biodiesel are being researched heavily.
